grade 9 and grade 8 journal deadlines
Grade 8 must hand in their journals on June 4th (Friday).
I'll be expecting to read about geometry and locus (chapt. 10 and 11), measuring (chapt. 12), statistics and probability (chapt. 13 and 14).
Grade 9 must hand in their journals on June 3rd (Thursday).
I'll be expecting to read about deductive geometry and geometrical proofs(chapt. 11), measuring (chapt. 12), trigonometry (chapt. 13)and vectors (chapt. 14).

new home work policy for grade 9 mathematics students
Dear Grade 9 Parents:
As you know, students receive regular homework in Grade 9. Although this work is not always formally assessed, it is reviewed daily in classes and is meant to give students an opportunity to practice new skills and develop new ones. Unfortunately, I am finding that not all Grade 9 students are taking this opportunity and need some additional incentive to do the work that has been set. After a consultation with our Head of Department and my colleagues in the Maths Department, we have agreed that the following guidelines will be in place for Grade 9 Maths homework until the end of the year.
* Homework will be assigned twice a week. Unclear questions will be discussed in class. I will regularly check to make sure that homework is done and set up consequences for students who are consistently missing work or turning it in late.
* In order to increase students’ responsibility and also analyze students’ readiness to the Grade 10 Mathematics course, three dates will be chosen by the Math department between now and June, to assess homework as a home test.
* H/work will be collected and marked against suitable criteria (mostly Criterion A)
* In order to encourage the students to review material studied in class on another three days between now and June, our Head of Department, Dr. Isakova, will come in and give a surprise quiz. These ³pop quizzes² will allow us to look at student performance so that we can prepare them
Appropriately for grade 10.
I am hopeful that these additional measures will encourage all students to work consistently on building their math skills and to take responsibility for getting homework done in a timely manner. As always, I appreciate your support at home and look forward to hearing from you if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Pierre Gravel

grade 9 pasta bridge report guide
Lab report Outline for bridge project:
Header and title
Hypothesis:
(Ex.: The chosen structure for this bridge is the best possible choice to obtain an efficient structure that will support a maximum of weight while being as light as possible.)
Material: -describe and justify the chosen design;
-describe the construction process;
-describe the material used for the construction;
-describe the material used to test the bridge.
Experimentation: -measure and record the weight of the bridge;
-describe (with diagram) the step by step process of
experimentation;
-Record the maximum weight supported by the structure;
-calculate the efficiency ratio.
Discussion: -Was the failure of my bridge a parts failure or a global structural
failure?
-How can I compare my bridge’s performance with the other bridges?
-Can I identify a structure defect in any of them?
-Could I improve my design or is it globally corrupt? Explain why.
-What would I chose as a structure if I was to compete again in a
bridge contest and why?
Conclusion: -did I demonstrate my hypothesis and why?
Annexes and Bibliography.
